13 Sure-Fire Tips To Make Your Blog Post Titles Killer

Without a catchy headline, no matter how great your content is, no one is going to read it.

There are plenty of bloggers out there and millions of blog posts created by them.

All these blog posts are judge by readers only through their titles.

Your readers will just zap through your blog post titles and if it doesn’t intrigue them, it's over.

This is the reason that you really need to have a great title.

Even if your content is super great and you are very much confident that your readers will really like it, it will be all for nothing if your titles are not click-worthy.

Now you have an idea why you need killer blog post title, let me show you how to create a catchy one yourself.

Audience comes first

Just by reading your title, your audience should be able to know what they are going to find in your post.

Remember, you create content for your audience and not for yourself, your audience is the prime motive to create stunning content.

Don’t choose a topic that your audience doesn’t want to know about. Even if you have great content but your audience desires something else then it’s over.

And this where a lot of newbie bloggers make mistakes.

Think of your audience first, understand what they need, create content that they are really looking for, craft titles that resonate with their demands

Do keyword research

To compete with tons of blog posts being created all the time, you definitely need to consider how your post can come on top.

Search engines and social media are the topmost source of the traffic to any blog.

To get on top of Google’s result list or Pinterest you need to do keyword research.

Keyword research means finding those exact keywords which your ideal audience will type in the search bar.

This is very simple, on Pinterest all you have to do is to type your main topic in the search bar and it will show you the most popular keywords.

Then choose keywords that you think best resonates with your content and audience and merge it in your title.

Use emotion triggering words

Including emotion triggering words in your titles will make it really catchy.

I am not saying this.

It has been proven by research that if your title can create a feeling of fear or anxiety or exclusiveness then it results in an increase of 80% in total clicks.

For example “How a Single Guest Post Gotten an Entire Site Penalized by Google”

The above example triggers fear that the same can happen to me and I should check out this post to know what was done to prevent it.

If there has been a link in the above example you would have definitely clicked it right?

Create different titles

Almost all bloggers nowadays are always experimenting with their titles, creating multiple versions, and doing A/B testing to find the best one.

I generally create five or six titles for a single post and test it out for a couple of weeks.

Another good thing about this is that it allows me to create multiple images for that post since I already created multiple titles and this way I can pin the same post to Pinterest multiple times.

Why I do multiple pins?

Because then I would be sure that one of them would definitely become viral. And it actually works every single time.

Another thing I noted about Pinterest is that when one image goes viral, it makes all other images pointing to the same post viral.

That means, BOOM!

Talk about result

No one will click on the title if it doesn’t talk about results.

Like I said before, you need to present in such a way that your readers will imagine the whole picture when they will read your title.

Like “how I invested $45 to get 45,000 visitors”. It shows the result right there and conveys the message that “I have a strategy come and read it”.

Active voice

When you use active voice in your titles, your reader will feel like you are talking to them.

This creates an instant connection with your reader and they cannot resist clicking on it.

To take it to the next level, if you include a huge pain point of your audience (a topic that your audience is dying for), then it will make it much more catchy.

Try this, MUST!

Include numbers

I can’t stress it enough but having numbers in your title will make it go crazy.

But beware that your content should live up to its expectation.

Having numbers in headlines either in terms of visitors or money or other things is a proven strategy, which many bloggers have used extensively.

Next time you make headlines, do make sure you include long numbers.

Learn to use “how” “why” “what”

“How you can be __________”

“Why you should do ___________”

“What that means to your _________”

See what type of feeling it creates. If you include a sense of urgency in it then it will sell like crazy.

Practice where and how you can use these three words to create intense emotion.

If you can do this then you are golden!

Read headlines

I do this every day. WHY?

There are two main reasons behind it.

First, it will improve your writing skills, since you will be immersed in reading all the headlines, your thought process will start to align with those headlines and eventually, you will be able to craft awesome titles.

Second, you will stay up to date with what others in your niche are doing.

You cannot succeed if you don’t know what others are doing and what new trends are being created, what type of contents are in demand.

This all will give you a clear idea about what your next post should be.

So here what I do

I sometimes read 10 headlines that catch my eye before crafting my own and note it down.

Then I try to mix them and create my own magic.

Easy?

Keep it short

I have seen many newbie bloggers having a very long title.

Well, no one likes to read a long headline.

You should try to keep it short.

You need shorter titles because it triggers your emotion as soon as possible.

The reason to avoid this is that suppose you have a long title then the time reader reaches your emotion triggering word, the title would have lost all its juice.

Another reason for this is that Google and others would chop up your title to their character limit, so keep it around 55 characters.

Provide value

There might be cases where your titles are super but your content is different.

If you have the best headline in the world but your content is not related to it or it’s not adding any value, then it's not gonna work.

Your title should be catchy but at the same time, your content should also provide immense value and should live up to expectations that your title generated.

Change title over time

Well yes, I do this.

This will allow me to find the best one over time.

Because after second or third repetition, you will eventually find your perfect title that resonates with your audience and also matches your content, it just takes time and effort.

The reason for this to work is that the blogging world keeps on changing and new trends keep on emerging since you will be going through other’s titles you will stay updated.

And on the other side, you will be crafting many titles yourself, your title writing skills will improve, and eventually, you will get good at it.

For me, change in headline drives a peak in my page views.

Try it and see the results.

Practice, practice, and practice

We know that no one can become an expert in writing titles overnight.

Once you start practicing you will realize how it's done, no one can teach you better than yourself.

Even if you read a whole lot of information on how to write a killer title, it won’t make any difference if you haven’t tried it.

So practice.

There might be times when you will feel more confident about your titles and when you publish it.

Sometimes It doesn’t work.

But it will give you an idea about why it didn’t work and this will make your steps closer to success.

So, don’t be afraid to experiment with your titles, almost all bloggers have experienced this but they didn’t stop and that’s why they are successful.
